Kogan

In 1936, Red Wing Unions Stoneware re-incorporated as Red Wing Potteries, Inc.  The new name better reflected the company's divers production, which by then included kitchenware and dinnerware, in addition to stoneware, lamps and art pottery.

In 1938 Red Wing contracted with a talented industrial designer named Belle Kogan.  Based in New York, Kogan designed housewares in glass, plastics and ceramics from 1931 until 1970.  Her ceramics clients included the Brush Pottery, Cordey China, and Nelson McCoy Pottery, among others.  Red Wing issued one hundred of Kogan's art ware designs in 1938, primarily vases and bowls.  She also designed Fondoso, a dinnerware line that debuted as well in 1938 within the Gypsy Trail group.  Kogan's popular Magnolia line was launched in 1940.  Her Red Wing kitchenware designs from this time period include the five fruit-themed cookie jars.
