WPA Members Present Books on Edgerton Potteries and Ceramic Arts Studio
by Kari Kenefick

This past year members of the Wisconsin Pottery Association produced very exciting books that exceed every expectation for both depth of information and lovely color photographs.

First is a book by members Tim Holthaus and James Petzold, along with Donald- Brian Johnson entitled “Ceramic Arts Studio: The Legacy of Betty Harrington”. The book, published by Schiffer Publishing, Ltd., has been available since fall of 2003. It is a hardcover with 272 pages, including beautiful color photographs. This book not only shows examples of many Ceramic Arts pieces, but tells the remarkable story of Betty Harrington and the Ceramic Arts Studio, at one time the foremost producer of figurines and fine art pottery pieces. This book has been truly a labor of love for its authors and the most comprehensive text on Ceramic Arts Studio ever written.

You can get a copy of this book at your local collectors bookstore or by contacting Schiffer Publishing online: www.schifferbooks.com

Another fall 2003 book offering is WPA member Ori-Anne Pagel’s book “Pauline Pottery, a pictorial supplement to Edgerton’s History in Clay”, her earlier volume on the potteries of Edgerton, WI. The Pauline Pottery book is a magazine- like manual, 70+ pages, including a timeline, and featuring beautiful color photographs of Pauline, Norse and other potteries the production of which was so low that many will only see the pieces via the photos in this book. Published by the Arts Council of Edgerton, WI
